Rubber Pin Box vs.GooseTech:

Which MORryde Pin Box Is Right for Your Fifth Wheel?

Ever feel your truck get jerked forward or shoved from behind when your fifth wheel shifts? It happens when you stop at a red light, roll over a bump, or pull away from the gas pump. RVers call it “chucking,” and after a long day on the road, it wears you out. It’s also hard on your truck and your camper. That jerky, bumpy ride is exactly what MORryde set out to fix.

MORryde now makes two products that help: the MORryde Rubber Pin Box and the newer GooseTech. Both use the same rubber cushion to soften the ride, so either one will give you a smoother trip. The real difference is how each one hooks up to your truck.

Below, we’ll walk through what they have in common, how they’re different, and how to pick the right one for you.

Both pin boxes replace the rigid factory pin box on your fifth wheel with one that uses MORryde’s rubber shear spring design. Instead of passing every bump, start and stop straight into your truck, the rubber spring flexes and absorbs that energy first.

With either product, you get:

• Up to 3″ of fore/aft cushioning — the front-to-back direction where chucking, jerking and pushing are felt most

• Smoother starts and stops and less jarring motion in the cab

• Less stress on your trailer frame, hitch and tow vehicle

• No air system — no air pressure to check, top off or troubleshoot, and nothing to service between tows

• A bolt-on replacement for your existing factory pin box

In short, both are built for the RVer who wants a smoother tow without adding another maintenance chore to the pre-trip checklist.

MORryde Rubber Pin Box: For Traditional Fifth-Wheel Hitches

The Rubber Pin Box keeps the classic kingpin connection, so it hooks up to the fifth-wheel hitch you already have in your truck bed. If you’re happy with your current hitch and just want a better ride, this is the simplest upgrade.

Highlights:

  • Up to 3″ of fore/aft travel plus up to 1.5″ of side-to-side movement
  • Maintenance-free design
  • Fatigue tested to CSA standards
  • Works with a standard fifth-wheel hitch setup
  • Compatible with standard gooseneck connections and select single-point hitches, including the Blue Ox BXR2100/BXR2410, PullRite OEX, and Andersen Ultimate Fifth Wheel hitches, when used with the MORryde Adapter Kit (Part # RPB77-006).

Note: The MORryde Rubber Pin Box is not compatible with CURT CrossWingâ„¢ hitches.

GooseTech: For Gooseneck Towing

GooseTech is the latest evolution of MORryde’s pin box engineering. It takes the same rubber shear spring cushioning and builds it into a pin box that connects directly to a gooseneck ball — no fifth-wheel hitch required.

Highlights:

  • Up to 3″ of fore/aft cushioning from a proprietary rubber shear spring
  • Auto-latching coupler with remote release for quick, confident hookups
  • Matches your truck’s OEM pin location
  • Frees up your truck bed once the trailer is unhitched — no bulky fifth-wheel hitch taking up space
  • Maintenance-free design
  • Fatigue tested to CSA standards
  • Made in the USA

For truck owners who also use their bed for hauling, work or other trailers, getting that bed space back is a big deal.

Do either of these need air or regular maintenance?
No. Both are maintenance-free designs with no air bags, so there's no pressure to check or adjust between trips.
Will they fit my fifth wheel?
Both are designed as replacements for common factory pin boxes and come in versions for different trailer weight ratings (GVWR). Check your trailer's GVWR and your existing pin box model, then use MORryde's Identification Guide and Fit Chart — or contact MORryde — to find the right part number.
Can I use the Rubber Pin Box with a gooseneck?

The Rubber Pin Box can be paired with compatible gooseneck connections and select single-point hitches, including Blue Ox, PullRite OEX, and Andersen Ultimate Fifth Wheel hitches, using MORryde's adapter kit (Part # RPB77-006).

If you want a pin box built for gooseneck towing from the start — with an auto-latching coupler and remote release — GooseTech is the purpose-built option.

Note: The Rubber Pin Box is not compatible with CURT CrossWingâ„¢ hitches.

Do I need anything else with GooseTech?
Safety chains are required for gooseneck towing in certain states. Requirements vary by state, so be sure to check the regulations where you'll be traveling. Your MORryde dealer can help you determine what you need for your towing setup.
